Remotely locking a device


Remote lock is a useful security feature of mobile device management. It allows to remotely lock a device so that a passcode is required to continue using it, for example, if the device gets lost or stolen. An effective use of the remote lock feature requires that a passcode has been set for the device. For this reason, it is useful to enforce a passcode policy for the managed mobile devices.

Note: Windows Phones support remote lock on WP 8.1 and newer devices. Windows 10 PCs are not supported.

Steps for remotely locking a device

1. Open Devices under the Mobile management menu. A list of devices opens. Click on the device you wish to lock and select Lock device from the Actions menu.


2. From the opened Lock device wizard, verify that the device and its user match the device that you wish to lock and click Lock.


3. After the device lock has been sent to the device, you can follow the progress by opening Events from the Mobile management menu. There you can see the status of the performed security actions.


4. After the device has been locked, the user needs to enter the device passcode to continue use of the device.
